The Longview Farm Market will open for the season on May 21st at 9:00 am, with a new concept behind supporting local farms and bringing fresh food to the community.
The market has been reimagined as a farmers’ market, hosting local vendors of meats, eggs, dairy, baked goods and more. Deep Roots Valley Farm will sell a variety of sustainably raised meats, including chicken, pork, beef and eggs. Green Lion Bread will be bringing incredible artisanal bread using local grains, Longview Farm will be providing a wide variety of produce, and Naturally Sweet will be bringing delicious treats with a healthy twist. More vendor announcements are coming soon.
We are happy to have Kristen Yehiel on the team as the Longview Farm Market Manager. She’s a longtime member of the Collegeville community, and you’ll also see her in her role as chef for Naturally Sweet and hosting occasional cooking workshops throughout the season.
In addition to regular vendors at the Saturday market, Greener Partners will be hosting “Seasonal Saturdays” food demonstrations, featuring cooking, preparation and storage tips and tastings for in-season vegetables and fruits available at the market or on the farm’s Pick-Your-Own-Rainbow fields.
Local favorites Palermo’s Pizza will add to the festivities, Max Out Personal Trainers will bring fitness tips and demonstrations, and live music will round out the opening day. WXTU will be hosting a ticket run in the morning, time to be confirmed.
Why the change?
The Longview Farm Market, originally the Willow Creek Orchards market, has struggled to be sustainable, especially for a small nonprofit such as Greener Partners, which focuses on a full-circle approach to healthier communities through food, farms and education. Meg MacCurtin, Greener Partners’ Executive Director says, “A farmers’ market really supports GP’s core mission of promoting local agriculture as well as bringing fresh, healthy food to the community. We hope the community will embrace this change and enjoy the market!”
