Einstein Family Medicine’s Rooftop Garden

Across the nation, healthcare providers are recognizing that food is medicine. Fresh food plays a direct role in our health, but many patients lack access to fruits and vegetables.

Since 2016, we have collaborated with Einstein Family Medicine in Norristown, to increase access to fresh produce by supporting their rooftop parking garage garden.

Einstein’s rooftop garden is a special space where pediatric residents and their young patients come together, sharing the wonders of gardening and the health benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables. Together we are making a difference in the lives of children who face heightened risks of diet-related health issues.

Our seed-to-plate lessons spark excitement and curiosity, as youth see how food grows and how to cook and prepare it.  One child joyfully shared “I learned it is fun to taste new things!” This spring, our seasonal lessons have included sensory explorations with herbs seed identification and making a plant part salad.
